Reveiw: Another Note

i could just go on amazon or something and type my review there, but i'm not in the mood. (excuse my bad grammar)

SPOILER ALERT: PLZ HEED THIS WARNING IF YOU EXPERIENCE UPSETTING FEELINGS AFTER LEARNING SPOILERS. I ALL TO WELL KNOW THESE FEELINGS AND DO NOT WISH THEM UPON OTHERS.

so, i read Death Note: Another Note: the Los Angeles BB Murder cases, which is a novel starring Beyond Birthday (rue ryuzaki) and Naomi Misora.... and Ryuzaki (the original, not the copy).

my intent was to read this novel after the manga, but my situation has made that difficult, so i'm reading this book first (i only wanted to read the book to criticize it).

the very first page, i knew this book was good in terms of writing and humor.  Another Note's narrator is Mello, and the way the author voices him is hilarious (i'm not in any place to say perfect, for i don't know how Mello really speaks). so, the introduction, was good. shows Mello's disdain for kira and his great respect to L, and his rivalry towards Near and i quote:
"... The person most likely to read this first will probably be that big-headed twit Near..."
"...There's also a chance that Kira might read this...and i hope he does. If these notes tell the murderer, who only got by with help of a supernatural killing notebook and an idiot of a shinigami, that he was, under any other circumstances, not even worth the dirt beneath L's shoes, then they have served their purpose..." (grammatically speakking, this is not a run-on sentence, but i have a feeling some idiots might've gotten a bit confuzzled by the end of the sentence. no offense if u found that sentence confusing. if u did, consider it that i have taken back calling u an idiot.)

... "L's shoes... uhh... does he mean those worn out, uncared for sneakers? L doesn't wear shoes, most of the time. it would've been better to say something more intelligent like "not even worth the crumbs beneath L's feet" or something. that would surely be showing off his vast knowledge of L.

but after this entertaining intro, i felt as if the author made Naomi Misora seem too much of a ditz. just like the writer of the manga did. she seems dumb, and with her being the only smart female in the series (i think...) it implies that women are idiots. Naomi and the whole Wara Ningyo part...she's soo slow.... so very slow.... slower than the reader. how could this be? is it the desired affect, or a mistake of the author's? (this was what i was thinking while i was reading that part... i'm still not sure...)

Besides that, it was amazing... it was funny (i especially like Beyond), and well-written. It fits the original story, and the plot was deep. i did feel as if the book was too short, but it is only Mello's notes to Near... i must emphasize on how good it was written, i liked the style very much. (you must all think i'm a terrible critic, i'm hardly criticizing anything)

I'm glad the online description of the book didn't ruin the entire story. The ending was still surprising, even though i knew rue ryuzaki was BB. what i scold myself for not realizing earlier is that rue ryuzaki stands for L.L. it's quite obvious... r and l are the same, if you know what i mean. When things are translated from Japanese, the "r" becomes an "l".
merro, mello
raito, light
lawliet, Rōraito
how can i be so stupid?

I liked how the author wrote the book with Mello's narrative. this offers Mello's own input on the scenes and the story and L himself. I wish i had the time and motivation to type up some of my favorite parts of the tiny 173 paged novel, but i don't. Read the book yourself. it's awesome.

"Imagine that you were going to kill someone. What do you think would be the most difficult part? three, two, one...time's up! The correct answer: killing someone. (yay! i got it right =^.^=) Now, now calm down-- I swear I'm not making fun of you, or playing linguistic tricks here. I'm completely serious. People, in other words, humans, have not been designed to die that easily--- at the least, people almost never grunt or moan, and immediately fall over dead. Strangulation, blunt force trauma, stabbing--none of these will kill people easily. Humans are surprisingly sturdy creatures. Additionally, people have a tendency to resist being killed. Nobody wants to be killed, and there's a good chance they'll try to kill you back. Physical strength in humans doesn't vary that much, (really? i don't agree) and in a one-on-one fight, winning can be rather difficult (this i agree with). From this point of view, the ability to kill someone just by writing their name in a notebook is a flagrant violation of fair play, as I'm sure you can imagine."(of course, Light wasn't playing fair. you can't play fair when trying to conquer the world...)

and on goes the epic writing. if i were to sit down and write a full length review, it would be similar to this, with random brackets (or watever they're called) here and there. as you can see, i already do that in my normal typing. if you what, we can have a reading session, where i comment on every other sentence of the entire book.
